The plane we took to Cusco was much more comfortable than
the one we took to Lima. Because of this, Mateo spent the entire flight asleep.
Many of the others spent the flight writing in journals, either reflecting or
writing stories. It was a smooth flight except for the last fifteen minutes,
when there was almost unbearable turbulence. Clearly, the plane landed in one
piece and we all made our way out of the airport into two vans. It’s safe to
say that we started at the bottom… and now we’re here: 9000 feet above sea
level. After what seemed like an eternity of piling bags onto the top of them,
we began an hour long drive to Ollantaytambo. There were two rest stops along
the way, one to look at an amazing view, and the other to allow passengers to
relieve themselves. Right now, we’re in the Hostal, some are playing soccer
with two children, Luis and Sebastian, and others are sitting in the dining
room discussing the days’ events. We all agree that today was a great day, and
we’re thrilled to be here.
