(8/2/2013 blog will be entered later today or early tomorrow morning)
Today everyone met their homestay families and moved in with
their belongings. At 12 noon the
families all assembled at Hostel El Tambo together with Groton students. Aima
organized a nice little game that allowed each student to meet their homestay
family while remaining part of the bigger Groton group. Each student was given a word (an Ollantaytambo location) on a
piece of paper and their host family had a similar piece of paper with the same
word. Students then went one by one and
read out their word. The family that had the corresponding word came forward and
what followed was a heartwarming meeting of student with family. I archived
each meeting through the global camera
and the results are below.
Both students and families looked nervous, but we are
confident that all will be well. The children will have lunch with their
homestay and then will participate in an activity where they go with their
homestay brothers and sisters to try and locate as many Groton homestay
families as possible. We meet again at 5 PM and during reflection time we will
ask everyone to write down a description of their homestay family to post on
the BLOG tomorrow.
Just to let you know that each day we take close to 500
photographs and only a small fraction appear on the BLOG – after they have been
resized. There is one folder for each
day and I will make these available for you
through a public site such as drop box. More on that closer to the end of the trip.
